EF4 Tornado: Rozel, Kansas

END TIME/LOCATION: 7:47 PM CDT THREE MILES NORTHWEST OF ROZEL.

A supercell thunderstorm developed east of Dodge City around 530 PM Saturday 18 May and became tornadic after entering Pawnee County. A tornado developed six miles southwest of Rozel at 718 PM CDT and moved to one mile west of town before turning to the northwest and dissipating about three miles northwest of Rozel at 747 PM CDT. A total of five farms were damaged by this tornado, including one farm house that lost most of its roof and some of its exterior walls. The tornado intensity has been rated EF4 based on measured winds of 165 to 185 mph by a Doppler On Wheels. The maximum damage path width was 1100 yards. Below is the track of the Rozel Tornado along with the radar image at the approximate time when the damage was occuring. Numerous trees were snapped and limbs broken along the tornado route. Several electrical line wood poles were also broken.
