August Weather Summary for Dodge City

The average temperature for the month was 78.2 degrees, which was normal.  The beginning of the month saw temperatures above 100 degrees for the first three days.  There was one other day that reached 100 degrees which was on the 19th.  The warmest day was on the 1st with a reading of 104 degrees.  Relatively cool temperatures were observed during the middle of the month from the 13th to the 15th when readings were below 80 degrees.  With a high of only 71 degrees on the 13th, a record lowest maximum temperature was established for that date.  The average maximum temperature was 91.1 degrees and the average minimum was 65.2 degrees.  The lowest temperature was 59 degrees and occurred on the 5th and 29th.

Precipitation for the month was slightly below normal with 2.62 inches recorded.  This was 0.11 inches below normal.  The greatest 24 hour amount occurred on the 22nd and 23rd with 0.98 inches.  There was one hail day and that was on the 22nd.  The largest hail size was half an inch.  The average wind speed was relatively light at 10.1 mph.  The highest wind gust was 45 mph from the northwest on the 12th.
