September Weather Summary for Dodge City

September 2005 was one of the warmest Septembers on record.  The average temperature for the month was 74.1 degrees, which was 4.8 degrees above normal.  This was the 7th warmest September with records dating back to 1875.  The warmest September was 77.8 degrees in 1931.  The average maximum temperature was 88.1 degrees and the average minimum was 60.0 degrees.  The highest temperature was 100 degrees on the 21st, and the lowest was 41 on the 29th.  Temperatures through the 24th were on pace for the 2nd warmest September, however much cooler temperatures toward the end of the month brought the average down.
Precipitation for the month was 1.16 inches, which was 0.54 inches below normal.  The highest 24 hour amount was 0.48 inches on the 6th and 7th.  The total precipitation from January 1st through the end of September was 16.59 inches, which was 2.53 inches below normal. 
The average wind speed for the month was 14.1 mph.  The highest wind gust was 43 mph from the south and occurred on the 11th.  The amount of sunshine for September was 81 percent.
