Brad Harvey Receives 25 Year Length of Service Award

Brad Harvey, cooperative weather observer of rural west central Trego County KS south of Collyer, was presented with a 25 year length of service award on Thursday, September 5th, by Jesse Lee, Observing Program Leader for the National Weather Service in Dodge City.  Brad has recorded rainfall and snowfall date for the National Weather Service since 1988.  The station began in 1940 with Jerry Darby as the first observer.  Oscar Luce, Mr. Darby’s nephew, took over in 1949 and continued until 1981.  Gary Walt was the observer from 1981 until he passed away in 1983.  Brad’s father, Don Harvey, became the official observer in 1983 until his death in 2005.  Brad became the backup observer in 1988 before becoming the primary observer in 2005.
