As the 2010-2011 winter snow season has wound down, we added up the snow totals and plotted them on a map using ArcGIS software. Bear in mind that these numbers are preliminary, but the general distribution and patterns of snowfall should remain fairly similar after the numbers are finalized.

And here is a graph showing the progression of snowfall at Duluth through the course of the winter. The blue line tracks the "normal snowfall" through a winter, based on the 1971-2000 period of record. The red line is what happened this year, with 93.4" of snow falling at Duluth. The black lines track the maximum and minimum snowfall through a given date in any winter that we have on record. Finally, there are some annotations to draw attention to the quiet February we had with respect to snowfall, and how a good portion of the large winter storms occurred prior to New Years Day.
