COOLEST JULY ON RECORD ACROSS IOWA

IF YOU HAVE BEEN THINKING THIS MONTH HAS BEEN QUITE COOL...YOU ARE
CORRECT.  IN FACT...JULY WAS THE COOLEST ON RECORD BASED ON A
STATEWIDE AVERAGE. A COOL WEATHER PATTERN PERSISTED FOR ALMOST THE
ENTIRE MONTH. THE FOLLOWING IS A LISTING OF STATEWIDE RANKINGS OF
AVERAGE TEMPERATURES FOR THE MONTH OF JULY. A REMINDER THAT 2009
DATA IS PRELIMINARY AND SUBJECT TO CHANGE.

RANK    YEAR   AVE. TEMPERATURE

1.      2009        68.0
2.      1891        68.3
3.      1992        68.7
4.      1882        68.9
5.      1915        69.3
6.      1950        69.9
7.      1924        70.0
8.      1904        70.4
         1905        70.4
         1958        70.4
11.    2004       70.8

STATE CLIMATOLOGIST HARRY HILLAKER ADDS THAT THE FINAL NUMBERS
MAY TAKE AN ADDITIONAL 30 DAYS TO PROCESS...AS APPROXIMATELY 24
PERCENT OF THE DAILY TEMPERATURE DATA IS NOT REPORTED IN REAL
TIME...BUT SENT IN AFTER JULY HAS ENDED. THESE DATA WILL NEED TO BE
ADDED TO THE DATA SET FOR A FINAL CALCULATION.  HOWEVER...GIVEN THE
SPREAD OF 0.3 DEGREES BETWEEN 2009 AND 1891, IT IS UNLIKELY THAT
2009 WILL FALL IN ITS RANKING.
