31 December 2006 Iowa Snowfall Totals



Snow fell across western and central Iowa on December 31st and accumulated up to 6 inches. The snow fell heaviest in a band from just north of Omaha to near Estherville. Much of the area experienced strong and gusty winds during and after the snowfall which caused considerable blowing and drifting of the snow.

The 1.0 inch of snowfall reported at the Des Moines International Airport spared that site from tying the record for least amount of snowfall for the month of December (which was 0.1").
