NWS Detroit/Pontiac Beach Forecasts and Beach Hazard Statements

The beach/shoreline forecasts and hazards statements are now easily accessible from a new web page.

NWS Detroit/Pontiac will start issuing forecasts for the shoreline/beach areas of Southeast Michigan. The PIL ID will be ARBSRFDTX. The SRF will be issued on a routine basis during the warm season roughly defined as Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend. The forecast will be issued routinely at 4-5 a.m. for "today", and then again at 9-10 p.m. for the "next day". The SRFDTX will only include Bay, Tuscola, Huron, Sanilac, St. Clair, Macomb, Wayne and Monroe Counties.

NWS Detroit/Pontiac will also issue a Beach Hazards Statement as necessary when dangerous swimming conditions are expected. The Beach Hazards Statement will be issued when conditions warrant during the warm season roughly defined as Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend. The Beach Hazards Statement will issued through the ARBCFWDTX (Lakeshore statement) with the VTEC code of BH.S  The Beach Hazards Statement will be issued for High Risk Swim Conditions...Waves 3 to 5 feet. This is most likely to occur, but not limited to, Small Craft Advisory conditions with onshore flow.  The Beach Hazards Statement will be issued for the beaches in the following counties...Bay, Huron, Sanilac, St. Clair, Macomb and Monroe. Due to the limited number and size of the beaches in Wayne and Tuscola county they will not be included in any Beach Hazard Statement.
