Near Record Numbers of Tornadoes in June Across Southeast Michigan

June has been a very active month for tornadoes across all of Southern Lower Michigan.  Across Southeast Michigan (the 17 county area of responsibility for NWS Detroit/Pontiac) there have been 8 tornadoes this month.  For the state of Michigan there have been 15 tornadoes in June 2010 (a total of 16 for all of 2010).  Southeast Michigan averages about 5.5 tornadoes per year and Michigan averages about 15 tornadoes per year.   The tables below place June 2010 near some records for tornadoes across Southeast Michigan and the entire State of Michigan.
