The Bad Axe NOAA Weather Radio (NWR) transmitter was commissioned in July.  Both the Bad Axe and Sandusky NWR transmitters cover areas that were not previously covered by the Flint NWR transmitter prior to 2002.  However, the Flint NWR transmitter was and continues to broadcast forecasts and warnings for portions of the Thumb region and Lake Huron, even though the signal does not reach those locations. 

With the addition of the two transmitters in the Thumb Region, an evaluation of the signal coverage area was completed.  Changes to the NWR broadcast coveage areas were then recommeneded to and coordinated with local emergency management, broadcasters, and officails with the Emergency Alert System (EAS).  These changes will lead to better warning dissemination and a streamlining of each of the NWR transmitter's broadcast cycles.

The broadcast coverage changes to the Flint, Bad Axe and Sandusky NWR transmitters will take effect on December 1st, 2010.  The changes are summarized in the tables below.
