Heavy lake effect snow will persist along portions of the Thumb this morning before weakening and shifting back over Lake Huron this afternoon as winds back from north to northwest. Confidence is high that upwards of 8 inches of snow will fall in some locales. The most intense snowfall will occur early this morning. The dry nature of the snow will be favorable for blowing and drifting, particularly across west-east oriented roads.
