An earthquake was felt across the region early this morning. Here at the NWS Quad Cities we noticed minor tremors and slight shaking of our computer monitors.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) monitors and reports seismic activity around the globe. They report that this quake measured 5.2 on the Richter scale and the epicenter was located near Belmont, Illinois.
An aftershock also occurred at 1014 am CDT and was felt in parts of eastern Iowa and northern Illinois. According to the USGS the aftershock had a magnitude of 4.6 on the Richter scale and was centered near the epicenter of the early morning earthquake.
