How can I start a flood gage on a stream near me?  How do flood gages work?  How is flood forecasting done?  Join the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the National Weather Service and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to learn more about flood gages and flood forecasting.

The USGS Iowa Water Science Center is hosting three informational sessions--called USGS 101--across Iowa in September and October.  These sessions are free and open to the public.  Each session will be filled with information, presentations and hands-on demonstrations.  They will last roughly three hours and will cover the same material.  The meeting dates, times and locations are:

  • Tuesday, 9/14, 1-4 pm:  Cedar Falls
  • Wednesday, 9/15, 1-4 pm:  Newton
  • Thursday, 10/14, time TBD:  Okoboji
