Severe weather possible today.

An intense storm system tracking from Nebraska into northwest Wisconsin today will bring very strong gradient winds to much of the region.  South winds gusting to 40 to 50 mph can be expected late this morning through the afternoon and into the evening. Drivers of high profile vehicles should use extra caution, and loose objects may be blown around.  Very warm temperatures of 85-90, combined with the strong winds, will create an extreme grassland fire danger today.  Avoid burning brush or grass today.

A cold front will trigger scattered thunderstorms across the area late this afternoon into the evening. Some of the storms may be severe with the main threats damaging winds of 60 to 70 mph and also large hail.  The tornado threat has diminished greatly in our area as this has shifted into much of Wisconsin and eastern Minnesota instead.

Stay tuned to later forecasts and any watches and/or warnings that may be issued later today and this evening.
