Temperature & Precipitation Outlook - Jan through Mar

The new climate outlook for January & January through March was issued on Dec 15. 

Here is a summary of what we might expect in the mid Mississippi Valley.

January:

  • There is a better chance (40-45%) at seeing above normal average temperatures.
  • There is no indication as to whether there will be below normal/near normal/above normal precipitation amounts.

  • There is a better chance (33-36%) that southeastern Iowa, west central Illinois, and far northeast Missouri will have above normal average temperatures.
  • There is no indication as to whether northwest Illinois and the rest of east central Iowa will have below normal/near normal/above normal average temperatures.
  • There is a better chance (33-40%) that the 91 day precipitation total will be above normal.
