April 2013 Climate Summary

 
  • The average temperatures in April 2013 were about 3 to 4 degrees colder than normal across Northeast Iowa, Northwest Illinois, Western Illinois, Southeast Iowa and Northeast Missouri. Rainfall was 2 to almost 6 inches above normal. The results of those two days of widespread heavy rain falling on already saturated soils on April 17th and 18th was widespread flash flooding, followed by area rivers that rose to major and record flood levels. The English River at Kalona had a record crest at 22.6FT on the morning of 4/19. The Rock River at Moline had a record crest of 16.53FT on the evening of 4/21 while the La Moine River at Colmar experienced a 28.91FT crest on the evening of 4/19. The Mississippi River at Gladstone (18.01FT) and Burlington (22.26FT) saw the 3rd highest crests on record.
