The Cold Air Has Arrived

Cold weather has settled in over the region.  It appears the cold temperatures are here to stay.   Low temperatures Saturday and Sunday  will be in the single digits above and below zero with highs in the teens to around 20. A weak system moving through Sunday will bring snow to the region and another surge of cold air for early next week.  Snowfall amounts at this time of 1-3 inches are possible on Sunday, with the highest amounts expected north and west of a line from Fairfield, IA to Clinton, IA, to Freeport, IL.  If there is snow cover after the weekend system, this second round of cold air could send temperatures below zero over much of the area.  There does not appear to be any breaks in the cold weather for the next couple of weeks,  with the long range outlooks showing below normal temperatures through the middle of December.
