Severe Thunderstorms May 6th 2012

Severe Weather Strikes the Region May 6th, 2012

A warm and humid air mass across the Central Plains Sunday provided the opportunity for several rounds of thunderstorm activity across eastern Kansas and Missouri through the day Sunday and into Sunday night. Sunday morning activity started on an outflow boundary from convection that had occurred across Nebraska and Iowa during the late night hours of Saturday. As the outflow boundary settled across Kansas and Missouri, it provided the focus needed for a round of morning thunderstorms. The morning thunderstorm activity had mostly dissipated by the early afternoon hours, though the warm and humid atmosphere was able to quickly recover ahead of a cold front that then shifted southeast into Kansas and Missouri, resulting in the second round of afternoon and evening thunderstorms. Of the storm reports received, some of the most notable where the tornado reports in and around Olathe Kansas and Raymore Missouri, with reports of baseball sized hail in Stewartsville Missouri.
