National Monthly Climate

Much of the United States was blanketed under well below normal temperatures for the month of March 2013. Temperature departures shown in the image below were as high as 12 to 15 degrees below normal in the Northern Plains, with readings over Kansas and Missouri between 3 and 9 degrees below normal for the month. 

Precipitation across the country ran near seasonal normals, with no large scale departures from normal.

Kansas City, Missouri

The average temperature at the Kansas City International Airport during the month of March was 37.8 degrees, which was 6.4 degrees below normal. The average high temperature was 46.2 degrees, or 8.9 degrees below normal. The average low temperature was 29.3 degrees
which was 4.1 degrees below normal. The highest temperature for the month was 83 degrees on the 15th. This was a record high temperature for the date. The lowest temperature was 20 degrees on the 26th.

Precipitation came in at 1.95 inches for the month, or 0.42 inches below normal. The greatest total in a 24 hour period was 1.05 inches on the 9th. Snowfall for the month was 6.1 inches which was 4.1 inches above normal.

 

St. Joseph, Missouri

The average temperature in St. Joseph during the month of March was 37.4 degrees, which was 5.54 degrees below normal. The average high temperature was 47.1 degrees, or 7.4 degrees below normal. The average low temperature was 27.6 degrees which was 3.8 degrees below normal. The highest temperature for the month was 82 degrees on the 15th.  The lowest temperature was 17 degrees on the 20th.

Precipitation came in at 2.08 inches for the month, or 0.17 inches below normal. The greatest total in a 24 hour period was 1.19 inches on the 9th.

 

 

 Kirksville, Missouri

The average temperature in Kirksville during the month of March was 33.0 degrees, which was 7.7 degrees below normal. The average high temperature was 42.0 degrees, or 8.9 degrees below normal. The average low temperature was 24.1 degrees which was 6.4 degrees below normal.

Precipitation came in at 3.34 inches for the month, or 0.79 inches above normal. The greatest total in a 24 hour period was 1.19 inches on the 9th.

 

Sedalia, Missouri

The average temperature in Sedalia during the month of March was 38.3 degrees, which was 7.4 degrees below normal. The average high temperature was 47.5 degrees, or 9.2 degrees below normal. The average low temperature was 30.2 degrees which was 5.6 degrees below normal. The highest temperature for the month was 79 degrees on the 15th.  The lowest temperature was 16 degrees on the 3rd.

Precipitation came in at 2.40 inches for the month, or 0.21 inches below normal. The greatest total in a 24 hour period was 0.71 inches on the 10th.

 

 

Olathe, Kansas

The average temperature in Olathe during the month of March was 38.1 degrees, which was 6.8 degrees below normal. The average high temperature was 46.6 degrees, or 8.7 degrees below normal. The average low temperature was 29.7 degrees which was 4.8 degrees below normal. The highest temperature for the month was 79 degrees on the 15th.  The lowest temperature was 20 degrees on the 25th.

Precipitation came in at 1.29 inches for the month, or 1.34 inches below normal. The greatest total in a 24 hour period was 0.59 inches on the 9th.
