Sunspot is Harbinger of New Solar Cycle, Increasing Risk for Electrical Systems

A new 11-year cycle of heightened solar activity showed signs it was on its way late Wednesday January 9th 2008. This cycle may bring with it increased risks to power grids, critical military, civilian and airline communications, GPS signals as well as cell phones and ATM transactions. The new solar cycle’s first sunspot appeared in the sun’s Northern Hemisphere Wednesday, NOAA scientists said. Read more here.
