...NORTH DAKOTA WINTER WEATHER AWARENESS WEEK...DAY FOUR...

RECREATION SAFETY...

DURING THE WINTER SEASON...SUDDEN CHANGES IN WEATHER CONDITIONS
SHOULDN`T CATCH YOU UNPREPARED. REMEMBER TO DRESS FOR THE
SEASON...NOT JUST FOR THE FEELING YOU HAVE THAT DAY.

ALWAYS CARRY A HAT AND GLOVES WITH YOU...EVEN IF YOU DONT NEED THEM
AT THE TIME. DRESS IN LAYERS...AND UNZIP THAT JACKET IF YOU ARE TOO
WARM.  AND DONT JUST HOP FROM WARM HOUSE...TO WARM CAR...TO WARM
OFFICE AND BACK...WITHOUT PROPER SEASONAL CLOTHING.  BE PREPARED IN
CASE YOU NEED TO SPEND SOME TIME IN THE GREAT OUTDOORS...WHETHER
PLANNED OR UNPLANNED...YOU CAN STILL BE PREPARED.

WINTER RECREATION REQUIRES PREVENTIVE PLANNING.

NORTH DAKOTA PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT REMINDS US TO...EXPECT
THE UNEXPECTED. NORTH DAKOTA WEATHER CAN BE VERY UNPREDICTABLE AND
CHANGE ON A MOMENTS NOTICE.

TO DRESS FOR THE WEATHER - WEAR MULTIPLE LAYERS OF CLOTHING TO
REGULATE YOUR BODY TEMPERATURE. CHECK OUT THE NEW TECHNOLOGY BEING
USED IN EXTREME WEATHER FABRICS.

AND TO PAY SPECIAL ATTENTION TO PROTECTING THE BODY EXTREMITIES.
FOR INSTANCE, HEAD, FACE, HANDS AND FEET. THESE ARE THE AREAS MOST
APT TO BE FROSTBITTEN.

WHEN YOU TRAVEL...WHETHER FOR WORK OR FOR FUN...LET PEOPLE KNOW
WHERE YOU ARE GOING AND WHEN TO EXPECT YOU BACK. IF YOU BECOME
STRANDED...STAY WITH YOUR VEHICLE. IF LOST WHILE PARTICIPATING IN
ANY OUTDOOR ACTIVITY...FIND SHELTER AND STAY PUT. REMEMBER THAT
BEING PREPARED FOR ANY WEATHER CONDITION WILL SAVE YOUR LIFE IN THE
OUTDOORS.
