Preliminary Two Day Rain Falls

As a storm system moves slowly northeast across the Valley and Lakes region of eastern North Dakota and northwest Minnesota, rain is gradually turning to snow. Ahead of the snow, widespread rainfall has again saturated the topsoil, and is producing some minor river flooding. Rain will increase in intensity later today over the southern Red River Valley, as snow accumulates in the Devils lake basin.

So far, the highest rainfall totals have been in the northern Red River Valley and Devils lake basin. Below are preliminary data based on RADAR estimates and reports from observers, automated stations and others, it appears that the earlier forecasts have been working out nearly as expected.

As a result, rivers will continue to rise, with some points exceeding flood stage. Stay tuned to your favorite source of weather information, and check your NOAA's National Weather Service web site at www.crh.noaa.gov/fgf for updated forecasts, watches and warnings.
