Record Warm September for Grand Forks

September was the warmest on record in Grand Forks. The average monthly temperature was 64.2 degrees, which was 7.6 degrees above normal, and this broke the previous record of 62.6 degrees set in 1948. There were 14 days in September that the mercury reached or exceeded 80 degrees, which was more frequent than July with only 13 days at or above 80 degrees. In addition, September recorded 8 days in a row of 80 degrees or more, beat out only narrowly by June with 9 consecutive days of 80 plus degrees. 

The Fargo area experienced the second warmest September on record, with an average monthly temperature of 65.1 degrees. The warmest September on record occurred in 1897 with an average monthly temperature of 65.6 degrees. Fargo had 13 days of 80 degrees or higher, falling just short of July with 15 days. September did have 8 days in a row of 80 or warmer, which exceeded July for consecutive 80 plus days with only 7 days.
