First Accumulating Snow of Season

The first widespread accumulating snow occurred Wednesday and Wednesday night for the area.  A band of heavier snow fell from the Devils Lake Basin southeast into the Valley City and LIsbon area.  Some areas received from 6 to 8 inches of snow in a narrow band from Valley City to Kathryn, and numerous trees were toppled from the heavy/wet snow on powerlines.  In addition, crop damage has been reported with numerous corn fields virtually destroyed from the weight of the snow on the corn stalks.  Below is a map of the snow along with a detailed listing of snow totals.
