Minnesota Winter Hazard Awareness Week 2014

Monday    Tuesday    Wednesday    Thursday    Friday

November 10th through the 14th, 2014, is Winter Hazard Awareness Week in Minnesota. Each year the National Weather Service and the Minnesota Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management promote winter safety and individual preparedness for all citizens wherever they are: in their homes, on the road, at work, and at play. Unfortunately, many people each year suffer needlessly because they are unaware of the potential dangers of the winter season.

Get ready for another Minnesota Winter!  For most of us, the winter of 2013-2014 was the coldest winter in 30+ years - ouch!  Yet the winter of 2012-2013 was also one long and often difficult winter, with 60+ inches of snow common across the state (and the latest Red River Basin thaw on record!), while the preceding winter of 2011-2012 was quite mild and quite dry for most of the state.

So don't be fooled - be prepared!  We will have winter again this year, and everyone in Minnesota still needs to prepare for the outdoor hazards of a cold, snowy, and icy winter and the indoor hazards that occur every winter.
