Preliminary Rain and Snowfall Data for Oct 29-30 storm

The recent storm system brought heavy rainfall and a narrow band of heavy snowfall to the southern Red River basin into parts of northwestern Minnesota.   Rainfall totals from Thursday and Friday were in the 1.25 to 1.75 inch range from Sisseton and Milbank South Dakota through Wahpeton to Fergus Falls and Morris Minnesota.  Around an inch of rain fell in Fargo through Detroit Lakes to Baudette.  Rainfall closer to one-half inch over the northern Red River valley and the Devils Lake basin. 

The rain changed to snow Friday morning from northeastern South Dakota into west central and northwest Minnesota from Sisseton and Watertown to Fergus Falls and Rothsay...then to Detroit Lakes...Fosston to Bemidji and Baudette.   The heaviest snow totals were in a narrow band from near Detroit Lakes to Waubun and Mahnomen to Fosston where 5 to 10 inches fell.   Many accidents were reported in this area.
