On Monday, March 8 2010, the National Weather Service Eastern North Dakota, Weather Forecast Office in Grand Forks, will change the major flood stage for the Red River of the North near Halstad Minnesota (USGS gage no. 05064500, NWSLI HILN8) from 40 to 37.5 feet.
Moderate flood stage will remain 32 feet, and minor will remain 26 feet. High water notices will be issued at a river level of 24 feet. The change was made at the request of Norman County Officials due to the impassibility of State Highway 75 near the new major flood stage of 37.5 feet. River flood warnings and statements as well as long range probabilistic outlooks will reflect this change effective on March 8 2010. River flood warnings and statements will be issued when the river is forecast to rise above flood stage in the next seven days and continue until flooding recedes.
