Preliminary Storm Totals October 26-27 2010

The potent storm that brought heavy rains, areas of slushy snows and Tropical Storm strength winds was winding down by Wednesday evening.  This storm produced widespread 2 to 3 inches of rain over eastern North Dakota and northwest Minnesota, and dropped 2 to 6 inches of snow over Devils Lake and the west central Minnesota lakes country... with a narrow band of 8-13 inches of snow from near Carrington to Lake Metigoshe in north central North dakota.  Below are some images based on preliminary data of where the heaviest rains and snows fell in our service area.

For information about how this storm set an all time record for low pressure in Minnesota, check this article by the Minnesota State Climatologist's office.

This storm may have also set the all-time record for a low pressure reading over the CONUS (CONtinental United States)... for an extra-tropical cyclone (non-hurricane) event.

As a result of the heavy rainfalls, some area rivers have responded by rising, with a few forecast to reach near or to exceed minor flood stage. Check the AHPS web page for updated information.
