Another Round of Winter Weather Expected New Years Weekend.

Low pressure will move across the Northern Plains today.  A mix of freezing rain or snow is expected this morning with a rain or snow mix this afternoon. Areas which do get snow could see accumulations from 1 to 3 inches.  Any freezing rain this morning will cause hazardous travel.

The low pressure system will strengthen significantly as it moves off towards the Great Lakes.  This will cause northwesterly winds to increase Saturday night and into Sunday.  Winds of 25 to 35 mph with higher gusts will be possible.  Depending on how much new snow falls and how temperatures along with any rain or freezing rain impacts the snow pack, problems with blowing and drifting snow will be possible New Years Eve into New Years Day.
