Excessive Cold Watch/Warning Products

WHAT IS AN EXCESSIVE COLD WATCH AND EXCESSIVE COLD WARNING?

EXCESSIVE COLD PRODUCTS ARE ISSUED FOR CONDITIONS WHEN WIDESPREAD WIND CHILLS OR TEMPERATURES OF 30 BELOW OR COLDER CAN BE EXPECTED.

IF FORECASTS ARE FOR 30 BELOW TO 35 BELOW TEMPERATURES OR WIND CHILLS, THEN EXCESSIVE COLD WATCHES/WARNINGS ARE ISSUED USING FORECASTER DISCRETION. AT THESE TEMPERATURES THEY WOULD NOT LIKELY BE ISSUED FOR TIMES WHEN 30 BELOW TO 35 BELOW TEMPERATURES OR WIND CHILLS WILL OCCUR IN ISOLATED AREAS AND FOR BRIEF TIMES. IT WOULD UP TO THE FORECASTER ON SHIFT TO DECIDE IF THE PRODUCT IS NEEDED.

IF FORECASTS ARE FOR COLDER THAN 35 BELOW TEMPERATURES OR WIND CHILLS...THEN AN EXCESSIVE COLD WATCH/WARNING IS ISSUED REGARDLESS OF AREAL COVERAGE AND LENGTH OF TIME.  LIKE OTHER WATCH/WARNING PRODUCTS...A WATCH IS ISSUED IN ADVANCE FOR CONDITIONS THAT WILL OCCUR 12 TO 48 HOURS IN ADVANCE. A WARNING IS WHEN CONDITIONS ARE IMMINENT OR OCCURRING.

THERE IS NO EXCESSIVE COLD ADVISORY PRODUCT. SO ADVISORIES FOR COLD TEMPERATURES OR WIND CHILLS WILL NO LONGER BE ISSUED.
