Spring Flood Outlook for March - May 2014

The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls has issued the first Spring Flood Outlook for 2014 covering March through May.

The conditional river model simulations based on the current conditions indicate there is a lower than normal chance of seeing minor, moderate, or major flooding for nearly the entire region. The only exceptions are near normal chances for minor and moderate flooding on the middle portions of the James River between Huron and Mitchell, and for the upper portions of the Big Sioux River around and upstream of Brookings. There are also near normal chances for minor flooding on parts of the Rock River around Luverne and Rock Valley, and normal chances for minor, moderate, or major flooding for the Redwood River in southwestern Minnesota.

Additional details on the latest probabilistic river flood outlooks can be found on the Hydrologic Outlook.
