Gusty winds creating difficult travel in southwest Minnesota this afternoon.

Gusty south winds of 20 to 35 mph are creating difficult travel across southwest MN this afternoon. Not only is the recent snowfall resulting visibility less than a mile at times in blowing snow, but roads are also becoming icy as drifting snow re-freezes on the roads. This image below shows just two locations where this is occurring, along State Highway 19 near Hendricks, and Interstate 90 near Jackson. However, as can be seen in the early afternoon road report from the MN Department of Transportation, similar conditions should be expected across much of the region. These difficult road conditions also extend into parts of east central South Dakota.

If you have travel plans across the areas this afternoon or evening, be sure to check the latest road conditions via http://www.safetravelusa.com or by dialing 511 before venturing out.
