Severe thunderstorms developed and moved southward over Brule, Aurora, and Charles Mix counties the evening of August 2, 2014. Most of the storms occurred between 7 pm CDT and 10 pm CDT, with many reports of hail ranging in size from golf balls to tea cups between Kimball and Lake Andes. Rainfall amounts in this area were generally around a half inch to about an inch and a half. Fortunately there were no reports of flash flooding, but there was one place where the hail broke windows. After 9 pm, additional strong to severe thunderstorms developed further east and produced large hail south of Yankton in Nebraska.
