...HEAVY APRIL SNOW IN SIOUX FALLS...BUT NOT A RECORD...

SNOW BEGAN FALLING BEFORE DAWN IN SIOUX FALLS ON TUESDAY APRIL 10
2007...BY MIDNIGHT...6.3 INCHES OF SNOW WAS MEASURED FOR THE
CALENDAR DAY.  THIS RANKS AS THE FOURTH SNOWIEST APRIL DAY IN SIOUX
FALLS CLIMATE HISTORY. THE TOP SIX CALENDAR DAY APRIL SNOWS ARE:

1. 10.5 INCHES ON 4/28/1994
2. 10.0 INCHES ON 4/10/1929
3.  8.4 INCHES ON 4/4/1957
4.  6.3 INCHES ON 4/10/2007
5.  6.1 INCHES ON 4/17/1983
6.  6.0 INCHES ON 4/6/1909

THE 6.3 INCHES OF SNOW THAT FELL ON APRIL 10 2007 WAS NOT A RECORD
SNOW FOR THE DATE. AS NOTED ABOVE...THE RECORD APRIL 10 SNOW
OCCURRED IN 1929 WITH 10.0 INCHES.

SINCE MIDNIGHT...ANOTHER ONE HALF INCH OF SNOW HAS FALLEN...BRINGING
THE STORM TOTAL TO 6.8 INCHES THROUGH 7 AM THIS MORNING. WITH
TEMPERATURES NEAR FREEZING...THE SNOW HAS SETTLED AND MELTED
SOME...LEAVING 5 INCHES ON THE GROUND AT 7AM THIS MORNING.
