Ten years after the Spencer, SD Tornado

May 30, 1998 is a day that many residents of South Dakota remember quite well.  The residents of Spencer, SD remember the day even better.  At approximately 8:44 PM that evening, a F4 tornado (winds speeds between 207 and 260 mph) hit the town of Spencer and changed the town and the lives of the people in the town forever.  May 30, 2008 marks the ten year commemoration of the disaster.  Many things have changed since that tragic night, including the rebuilding of the town and the expansion of NOAA Weather Radio across the entire State of South Dakota.  Follow this link to learn more about the Spencer tornado http://www.crh.noaa.gov/fsd/?n=tor1998may30
