...UNUSUALLY DRY AT SIOUX CITY AND SIOUX FALLS THIS LATE SPRING...

SIOUX CITY HAS HAD THE DRIEST MAY THROUGH MID JUNE PERIOD SINCE
RECORDS BEGAN IN THE LATE 1800S. ONLY 1.06 INCHES OF RAINFALL HAS
BEEN RECORDED AT SIOUX GATEWAY AIRPORT FROM MAY 1ST THRU JUNE
15TH...COMPARED TO A NORMAL OF 5.58 INCHES. THE PREVIOUS DRIEST
SUCH PERIOD WAS 1.88 INCHES IN 1989.

FOR SIOUX FALLS IT HAS NOT BEEN QUITE AS DRY...BUT THE 1.59 INCHES
TOTAL FROM MAY 1 THRU JUNE 15TH STILL RANKS AS THE 5TH DRIEST SUCH
PERIOD SINCE RECORDS BEGAN IN 1894. THIS COMPARES TO A NORMAL OF
5.19 INCHES FOR THIS LATE SPRING PERIOD. THE DRIEST MAY THRU MID
JUNE ON RECORD WAS 0.70 INCH IN 1894...AND SECOND PLACE WAS 1.12
INCHES IN THE NOTORIOUSLY DRY YEAR OF 1976.
