Two Men Injured by Lightning in Sioux Falls

Local media outlets are reporting that two men were struck by lightning early Thursday morning in east Sioux Falls, near Highway 11 and 26th street.  One man was transported to the hospital with unknown injuries.  Nationally, there have been 23 fatalities attributed to lightning strikes this year.  There was a total of 45 fatalities in 2007, with none reported in South Dakota.  It is important to remember that if you hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.  For more information on lightning safety, please contact Todd Heitkamp or refer to http://www.crh.noaa.gov/fsd/summer/lightning.php
