FROM THE EVENING OF DECEMBER 23RD THROUGH CHRISTMAS TO THE 26TH...
THERE HAS BEEN A STORM TOTAL SNOWFALL OF 19.0 INCHES AT THE SIOUX
FALLS AIRPORT. THIS IS THE 4TH BIGGEST STORM TOTAL SNOWFALL ON
RECORD. THE FOLLOWING ARE THE TOP 5 STORMS...

1.  32.2 INCHES  FEB 16-18 1962
2.  21.0 INCHES  FEB 8-9 1909
3.  20.0 INCHES  MAR 16-17 1917
4.  19.0 INCHES  DEC 23-26 2009
5.  18.9 INCHES  MAR 9-10 1956 (ALL WITHIN 24 HOURS)

THE HEAVIEST SNOWFALL WITHIN A 24 HOUR PERIOD FOR THIS STORM WAS
12.1 INCHES FROM THE EVENING OF DECEMBER 24TH INTO CHRISTMAS DAY.
THIS TIES THE 12.1 INCHES ON NOVEMBER 26TH 2001 FOR 12TH HEAVIEST
24 HOUR SNOWFALL ON RECORD.

A RECORD CALENDAR DAY SNOWFALL OF 10.5 INCHES WAS SET AT SIOUX
FALLS FOR CHRISTMAS DAY. THIS BREAKS THE OLD RECORD OF 10.0 INCHES
SET IN 1945.

THE MONTHLY SNOWFALL FOR DECEMBER IS NOW 27.6 INCHES. THIS IS THE
SECOND HEAVIEST DECEMBER SNOWFALL ON RECORD. THE RECORD FOR DECEMBER
IS 41.1 INCHES SET IN 1968. THE ALL TIME SNOWIEST MONTH ON RECORD
WAS 48.4 INCHES IN FEBRUARY 1962. SO FAR DECEMBER 2009 RANKS AS THE
5TH SNOWIEST MONTH ON RECORD.
