June 2010 Was Very Wet Across The Area

Rainfall for June 2010

Radar estimates show how wet it has been across the region throughout the month of June.  While this image may slightly over estimate rainfall amounts due to hail contamination from severe storms, it clearly shows a few areas where rainfall amounts exceeded ten inches.  One of these locations was De Smet, which officially reported 10.72 inches for the month of June, which was the fourth wettest June on record.  Similarly, Huron reported 7.52 inches of rain, which is nearly 230 percent of normal.  Sioux Falls received 7.83 inches, which is over 4 inches above normal and the fourth wettest June on record.  Sioux City officially recorded 6.40, though locations both east and west of Sioux City received over 10 inches.  In Cherokee, rainfall totals ranged from 6 to 8 inches across the city on the morning of June 27th, creating widespread flooding and causing a bridge south of town to washout due to the rainfall. Below is a table that shows rainfall totals, ranks, records, and normals for many locations across the Sioux Falls County Warning Area:
