A new Co-operative Weather Observer is being sought by the
National Weather Service for Wagner, SD to measure daily High/Low temperatures and precipitation.
This is an excellent opportunity for anyone who is interested in weather and has a desire to observe and report weather conditions at Wagner, SD. We will provide the equipment and training necessary and remain available for guidance while you are in the program.
Duties of the Wagner observer will be to make daily reports of 24 hour precipitation, including snowfall and snow depth. In preparation for our spring forecasts, weekly snow water observations are also part of the program. The observer will also report the daily High/Low temperatures.
Observing is simple and so is reporting your observation via a program accessed through the internet. All you need to get started is the interest, a PC, and internet access, we supply everything else.
Wagner, SD has a long and proud history as part of our nation's climate database. The Wagner Weather Station dates back to 1916 and has a nearly unbroken string of data from that time. For the past 54 years the site has been maintained by the same person. That observer is now retiring and the day has come for someone else to have a chance to contribute to the community of Wagner and our nation's weather history.
