First Winter Storm of the Season late Tonight and Saturday

Low pressure will organize and strengthen tonight and Saturday, moving from the Southern Plains into central and eastern Iowa. A mixture of rain and snow will develop this evening and change completely over to snow during the night and continue into Saturday.  At this time, the primary area of concern for a band of heavy snow exists from east of Marshall, Minnesota southward to the Storm Lake,Iowa vicinity.  The heaviest of the snow, where 6 to 10 inches will fall late tongight and Saturday, exists from the eastern side of Cottonwood County Minnesota, southward to Storm Lake, Iowa.  These amounts coupled with north to northwest winds of 20 to 35 mph, will create very hazardous travel conditions.  A WINTER STORM WARNING is in effect for later tonight through Saturday for areas east of Interstate 29.
