Blizzard conditions continue across much of the area this morning

Blizzard conditions continue across much of South Dakota and west central Minnesota this New Years morning. 30 to 40 mph winds will produce widespread blowing and drifting snow today. The main area of blizzard conditions will exist north and west of a line from Marshall Minnesota, to Madison South Dakota, to Mitchell and Pickstown South Dakota. Visibilities will frequently be reduced to less than 1/4 mile in open areas, and will drop to near zero at times. Blizzard conditions will slowly subside from west to east across the area this afternoon as winds decrease. As of 6 AM this morning, interstate 90 remained closed from Sioux Falls to Rapid City, and interstate 29 was closed from Sioux Falls to the North Dakota border. No travel is advised across a majority of South Dakota. For additional weather information on these dangerous conditions, please go to the following web site.  www.crh.noaa.gov/fsd/
