A review of the summer of 2011

Below is a summary of the temperatures and precipitation which occurred in Sioux City, Iowa, Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Huron South Dakota during the summer of 2011.  For all three locations, the average minimum temperatures for the summer were among the top 20 warmest on record.  This was primarily because of a very warm July where all three cities had at least 10 days where the minimum temperature did not fall below 70 degrees.  Sioux City also had an average high temperature in July of 90.1 degrees.  The first time the average temperature in July has exceeded 90 degrees since 2006.  For Sioux Falls, the total August precipitation of 1.40 inches was the lowest precipitation for any summer month since July 2007.
