49.8 DEGREES...MARCH 2012 WAS THE WARMEST ON RECORD...A WHOLE 16.9
DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL! JULY 2012 WAS THE SECOND HOTTEST ON RECORD AT
81.4 DEGREES... 7.3 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. WHILE HOT...JULY 2012 WAS
STILL MORE THAN THREE DEGREES COOLER THAN JULY 1936 WITH AN AVERAGE
TEMPERATURE OF 84.6 DEGREES. THE HIGH OF 104 DEGREES ON JULY 6TH WAS
THE HOTTEST TEMPERATURE RECORDED IN SIOUX FALLS SINCE JULY 13TH 1995
WHEN THE MERCURY TOPPED OUT AT 106 DEGREES. THE TEMPERATURE ALSO HIT
104 DEGREES ON AUGUST 30TH.

THE SUMMER MONTHS OF JUNE...JULY AND AUGUST 2012 WERE THE THIRD
WARMEST ON RECORD WITH AN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 75.3 DEGREES. THE
HOTTEST SUMMER ON RECORD OCCURRED IN 1936 WITH AN AVERAGE
TEMPERATURE OF 77.9 DEGREES. MORE RECENTLY IN 1988 THE AVERAGE
SUMMER TEMPERATURE WAS 76.2 DEGREES. THERE WAS A TOTAL OF 40 DAYS
DURING SUMMER 2012 THAT SAW THE MERCURY CLIMB TO 90 DEGREES OR MORE.
THIS WAS THE MOST SINCE 1988 WITH A TOTAL OF 41 DEGREES. SUMMER 1936
HAS THE MOST 90 DEGREE OR ABOVE DAYS AT 56. SUMMER 2012 HAD A TOTAL
OF 9 DAYS AT 100 DEGREES OR MORE...MOST SINCE 14 DAYS IN 1988.
AGAIN...1936 HOLDS THE RECORD WITH 21 DAYS OF TRIPLE DIGIT HEAT.

WETTEST YEAR LONG PERIOD ENDING AUGUST 31ST OCCURRED IN 2009 - 2010
WITH 39.81 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION. THE PERIOD ENDING AUGUST 2012
SAW THE DRIEST AUTUMN ON RECORD /0.87 INCHES/...THE EIGHTH DRIEST
NOVEMBER ON RECORD /0.04 INCHES/...THE DRIEST JULY ON RECORD /0.24
INCHES/ AND THE DRIEST SUMMER ON RECORD /2.73 INCHES/. THE PREVIOUS
DRIEST SUMMER OCCURRED IN 1894 WITH 3.55 INCHES. JUST TWO YEARS AGO
IN 2010 THE WETTEST SUMMER ON RECORD  OCCURRED WITH 22.64 INCHES.
THE WINTER MONTHS OF DECEMBER THROUGH FEBRUARY HAD ABOVE NORMAL
PRECIPITATION WHICH FELL IN MAINLY LIQUID FORM BECAUSE OF THE MILD
TEMPERATURES. FEBRUARY WAS THE FIFTH WETTEST WITH A TOTAL OF 2.43
INCHES OF PRECIPITATION. IN FACT THE BIGGEST DAILY RAINFALL FOR THIS
ONE YEAR PERIOD OCCURRED ON FEBRUARY 28TH WHEN 1.41 INCHES FELL...
ALONG WITH THUNDER AND SMALL HAIL.
