Severe Weather Possible This Afternoon

A line of severe thunderstorms are moving eastward through south central parts of South Dakota this afternoon.  Damaging winds and large hail will accompany these storms as they move east of the Missouri River.  Torrential rainfall will also be possible with these slow moving storms during the afternoon hours.

Locations along and north of the Interstate 90 corridor have the best chance for severe weather this afternoon.  If you have outdoor plans during the afternoon and evening hours, be sure to keep an eye on the sky. Also be sure to check the radar BEFORE you begin your outdoor activities. Conditions can change quickly this afternoon as thunderstorms approach these areas from the west.

The tornado threat is very low, but the threat for an isolated tornado will exist across areas west of the James River Valley in far southern parts of South Dakota.

If you plan on being outside this afternoon, remain plugged into the current weather conditions as these storms approach. Also stay tuned to the latest forecast and warning information from the National Weather Service by monitoring our NOAA Weather Radio broadcast.
