A fast moving cold front is sweeping across the Northern Plains bringing strong northwest winds at 50 to 60 mph to the entire area this afternoon. White out conditions are occurring along and west of the Interstate 29 corridor this afternoon as light snow combined with the strong winds are creating visibilities near zero in many areas. Those with high profile vehicle should be prepared for very strong northerly cross winds (especially on east-west highways) that will create hazardous travel through the afternoon and evening hours.
In addition to the strong winds, areas of light snow will continue east of a line from Creighton Nebraska up through De Smet South Dakota. The light snow combined with the strong winds will continue to create white out conditions into early this evening. Those traveling around the region should be prepared to encounter hazardous driving conditions through the early evening hours. Be sure to check the forecasts and statements regarding this developing winter weather situation. Please see our Winter Weather Monitor page for the latest information.
