July 14-19: Coolest 6-Day July Stretch in 10 Years At Grand Island, Hastings

Now that hotter weather is here, it's time to take a look back at the notably
cool stretch of temperatures from July 14-19, 2014. Many places, including
Grand Island and Hastings, enjoyed several days of highs only in the 70s before
barely reaching the 80s on the 19th.

Based on calculations of the average daily temperature between July 14th-19th
(which is an average of daily highs and lows), both Grand island and Hastings
recorded not only their overall coolest 6-day stretch of July weather in 10 years, but
also one of the coolest stretches of 6 non-overlapping July days on record. (Please
note that this stipulation of non-overlapping days eliminates listing multiple stretches
that include many of the same days.)

Following below are the rankings of the coolest, non-overlapping 6-day stretches of
July average temperatures on record at the official Grand Island and Hastings
observation sites:

In addition to the particularly cool 6-day stretch listed above, Grand Island
also recorded its 9th-coolest start to July on record through the first 19 days,
with an average temperature of 71.5 degrees. This year marked the overall-coolest 
first 19 days of July since 1992.

an average temperature of 71.6 degrees.  This year marked the overall-coolest
first 19 days of July since 1967.
