RSS FeedsLabor Day Climatology for Some Cities in the Area
The "unofficial end" of summer is usually reserved for the Labor Day weekend. This year, Labor Day falls on September 1st. Astronomically speaking, the end of summer comes about 3 weeks from now when the Vernal Equinox occurs. Climatologically speaking, Labor Day is truly a summer holiday with average high temperatures around 85 and low temperatures about 60 degrees. Historically, precipitation on September 1st occurs about 3 out of 10 years, or about 30% of time. More recently, the past 10 years are right on target climatologically, with highs averaging in the middle 80s, lows around 60 and rain occurring once every three years or so.
The forecast for this Labor Day looks like a warm one again, as high temperatures top out around 90 degrees. South winds of at least 20 to 30 mph will also be noted.
The following table depicts some Labor Day climatological stats for a few cities in north central Kansas and south central Nebraska. Data for these sites date back to at least 1910 with some having data back to 1893.
