| August was a cool month across the board for all of our Climate Connection sites. Several locations set all-time Top Ten Coolest records for August. Superior experienced it's 4th coolest August since 1902...Smith Center had it's 5th coolest August since 1912 and Beaver City it's 7th coolest August of record since 1893.
August turned dry after mid month leaving most locations with a moisture deficit. Exceptions were found over north central Kansas at Plainville...Phillipsburg and Smith Center. Plainville's 3.87 inches of rain on the 6th and 7th propelled them into a record setting month...leaving them with 8.09 inches...the 2nd wettest August since 1893. Phillipsburg's record rainfall wasn't locked in until the 24th when 3.62 inches of rain left them with a monthly total of 7.99 inches...the second wettest August for Phillipsburg since 1965. Note: # indicates one day or more of missing data. @ indicates hail. * indicates the last of several occurrences. |
