Top 15 Rainfall Totals...Thursday July 16

Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms overspread parts of central and south central Nebraska, along with north central Kansas, between the early morning and early afternoon hours on Thursday, July 16, 2009. Fortunately, these storms did not produce much in the way of severe weather, as peak wind gusts typically measured between 40-50 MPH. However, parts of the area did tally rainfall of 1-2 inches, and locally higher.

Most of the heavier rainfall was concentrated in two distinct bands, each roughly 20-30 miles wide. The northern band was centered generally from Ord to Fullerton Nebraska, while the southern band stretched from around Cambridge Nebraska through Phillipsburg, Smith Center and Beloit Kansas. In between, places such as Grand Island, Kearney and Hastings Nebraska received no more than 0.25 inch.

Summarized in the tables below are various rainfall totals from July 16. These reports are from a variety of sources, including automated gauges at airports and along area rivers, and manual observations taken by NWS Cooperative Observers.
